GA Custom Dimensions into Optimizely?

GA Custom Dimensions into Optimizely?

Hello,

As we are setting up an A/B test, we will need to filter our Audiences to exclude a certain group. In our GA premium, we have a custom dimension that allows us to do this. Is there any way via an intergration, to get our custom dimensions from GA into Optimizely, and use those custom dimensions are audience filters?

-Thank you!

Not sure, as I would like the answer to this question. Pretty sure you have to be an Enterprise customer of Optimizely though.

Thank you for the reply! Glad to see I'm not the only one looking for answers on this. Anyone else got an idea?

Yes, you can use Optimizely's integration feature. From that point, you would set up your custom dimension in GA then include that dimension in your experiment by ticking off integration in your experiment and selecting GA. Once that is done, you would build a custom report that filters out your experiment based on ID.

Hi Robert,

Thank you for the reply. I think you may have misunderstood my ask. I would like to know if it's possible to use our existing custom dimensions in GA to filer our the audience in Optimizely. Does that clear up my question?

Yes, you would need to edit everything in your GA custom report and regex out your experiment ID. In addition to that, you'll need to specify how you want to filter through there.

Re: GA Custom Dimensions into Optimizely?

Since it has been over a year now, my guess is the original poster has given up.

However, it appears that his actual question was only marginally answered.

I'll try to rephrase again as it pertains to an issue I'm facing.

In the answer, about using filters, that still limits us to indices  1-20.  If some of all of these indices are already in use in our GA account, we are stuck. The Optimizely interface doesn't allow manual index entry and the dropdown only provides 1-20.

While the previous reponse does address this to a certain degree, it does not take into account the fact that these indices may not only be otherwise assigned, they may also be set up with in incompatible Scope (like Hit or Product).

Optimizely recommends Session or User.

In my experience, User is best because it allows for analysis of Session
or User where Session alone is restricted to Session level analysis.

The question I'd like to pose is closer to my interpretation of the initial intent of this thread,

"Can we set up an experiment to use GA Custom Dimension indices higher than 20?"

Re: GA Custom Dimensions into Optimizely?

I think the ultimate answer has been made available (sometime when I wasn't looking).

You can now select up to the full 200 Custom Dimension indices available in Google Analytics Premium.

In the Integrations tab for each product, the Google Universal Analytics entry now has a checkbox option to open up all 200 indices.

Hopefully, this solves the original issue. It certainly solves ours!
