Optimizely X web set variation

Using optimizely X web experiment, I'm looking for a way to activate a particular variation for a selected target of users. Which user can see a particular variation is defined by an internal logic in my javascript.

Is there a way to force the variation in some way?

I've tried to use the query string but seems that the traffic is equally divided as defined by the settings, so it doesn't really look like the query string is working in this case.

Re: Optimizely X web set variation

Audience here is a selected number of user for my app that I select outside Optimizely. For each set of users I want my users to see a different variation. Also in this case, the variation is handled by an internal logic, outside Optimizely. Given that, when tracking events, I want Optimizely to know which variation the user is now seeing, manually setting it based on the web app internal logic.

Re: Optimizely X web set variation

Ok if the conditions are outside of Optimizely, you can try to create an Audience (Custom Javascript) that meets your requirement, Keep in mind difference between "or" and "and" when you set up the audience.

"or" Audience-A or Audience-B any of them make valid the audience
"and" Audience-A and Audience-B just the combination of them make valid the audience

Re: Optimizely X web set variation

That's indeed a good way to differentiate the audience, but at the same time I can't make the variation change based on the audience I'm targeting. The end result of my experiment should be to have a good understanding of user decisions based on the version of the data they're seeing. Not being able to set a variation manually makes Optimizely combine them all in the default variation.

Not sure if what I'm looking for is not available or I'm not setting this correctly.
