What do you think about the Facebook A/B testing news?

[ Edited ]

Hello,

With the current controversy about the Facebook A/B testing on the emotions of its users, I would love to hear your thoughts no what they could have done and how different (or not) their tests are from your general practices.

Hi Mitko,
Thanks for sharing this with the community. I've spent the last few days digesting all the perspectives and have found this to be a fascinating analysis of FB's research policies. I've found the following stories from Bloomberg, TechCrunch and Slate particularly well-rounded and interesting.

http://www.slate.com/articles/health_and_science/science/2014/06/facebook_unethical_experiment_it_ma...
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-06-29/facebook-allowed-researchers-to-influence-users-in-2012-stu...
http://techcrunch.com/2014/06/29/ethics-in-a-data-driven-world/

We'd love to hear more from the community on their perspective on the topic.

They (probably) should have take the ethical part a bit more in sight. But also the current mood about this whole topic does seem a bit to enthusiastic to me in terms of that it gets in some cases the wrong attention it would need. It would be cool to have Facebook share more on their methodology for A/B testing since 2012, maybe they already have improved the ethical part of coming up with new tests.
