Can I let a Winning Variation running indefinitely?

Hi
I understand that Optimizely works like a patch (Variation) that I put on top of my original page. Once I have a winning variation I remove the patch (end the test) and implement the winning variation.
What happens if instead of implementing the winning variation, I decide to keep the Optimizely Test running indefinitely with 100% of traffic allocated to the winning variation? Does it compromises my site performance? Since I will have a constant high traffic going through Optimizely I'll end up paying more?
Thanks

The visitors seeing the "patch" will still count towards your monthly user limit, so if you have more visitors than your monthly limit you may end up paying for overages.
