Crazy Egg error on setting up new Optimizely experiments

 Hello,

I have just started receiving the following error message when I try to create a new Optimizely experiment:

CrazyEgg: Create snapshot failed with status code 403

If this error persists, please let us know at our support page.

Our engineering team has been notified.

The green play button also says error on it.

This is exactly the same error that this user experienced, but the error code was given as 500.

At the time you mentioned that it was a bug which was fixed, please can you fix this so that it works again for us as soon as you can.

I deleted some snapshots from Crazy Egg yesterday for old Optimizely experiments, do you think that this may have caused the error?

Thank you,

Jey

For me, you don't need to enable the Crazy-egg integration to track the heatmaps, scrollmaps, etc I the past that integration just create problems for me. I get to realize that I can use both services independently with even better results.

Direct Variant URLs

Direct URLs for each variant is required, this is the url where the variant can be accessed outside the test. The direct URL is not the URL where the variant is served to visitors.

Below is an example to help clarify this point.

URL of the A/B test: http://www.example.com/pricing

Variant URLs:

http://www.example.com/pricing?variant=control

http://www.example.com/pricing?variant=1

http://www.example.com/pricing?variant=2

http://www.example.com/pricing?variant=3

In this example, the A/B test is of the pricing page. A control page and 3 variants are being served from the pricing URL. The control page and the variants can be reached directly using the variant URLs.

Direct URLs allow our screenshot system to visit the page and capture a screenshot outside of the test. This allows us to capture the correct screenshot for each snapshot.

Track by Name Snapshots

track using the URL by default, but this is not ideal with A/B tests since multiple pages can be served from the same URL. Track by Name allows you to track a page using a Track by Name code instead of the URL, this makes it ideal for A/B tests.

Snapshot Setup A snapshot must be added for each variant you'd like to track.

- Add a new snapshot using the direct variant URL

- Set the snapshot to Track by Name under Advanced Options

- The Track by Name code that is presented will need to be installed on the variant page

Re: Crazy Egg error on setting up new Optimizely experiments

Hi Jason,

Thanks for that, do you have an update on when a fix can be applied. Sorry to rush you it's just that I need to set up a new experiment today.

Also when I try and disable the crazy egg integration by default for new experiments it is saying that API key and the Secret key are invalid.

Thank you,

Jey

Re: Crazy Egg error on setting up new Optimizely experiments

Just to clarify that the Crazy Egg API and Secret keys are correct, but they are coming up as invalid when I try and disable the Crazy Egg integration by default for new experiments. Please can this also be fixed.

Thank you,

Jey

Re: Crazy Egg error on setting up new Optimizely experiments

Hi Jey,

Our engineering team is still investigating the issue. However, another customer has suggested disabling the Crazy Egg integration temporarily until a fix is pushed.

In the Optimizely editor, under Options -> Integrations, uncheck the Crazy Egg integration. Unfortunately, this means that you won't see heatmaps for the experiment, but it has worked for other customers.

Thanks,
Jason

Re: Crazy Egg error on setting up new Optimizely experiments

Hi Jason,

I did try disabling Crazy Egg for new experiments, but it keep saying that our API key and API Secret are invalid when they are not.

Thank you,

Jey

Re: Crazy Egg error on setting up new Optimizely experiments

Are you able to disable the integration all-together by flipping the switch on the integrations list to off?

Hi @freddiegreyling did you solve the problem?

Re: Crazy Egg error on setting up new Optimizely experiments

Hi Jason,

I got this to work by switching off Crazy Egg integration for each individual experiment and then for the whole project. It would be great in furure if that switch could work, so we can turn off all Crazy Egg integration in one go.

Many thanks for your help, this ticket can now be closed.
