Crazy egg integration

Crazy egg integration

I've been trying to set up integration with Crazy egg. I found the api key and the secret and input those in the integration fields. I keep getting an error message on save however saying that my key is not valid. Any idea why?

I had the same problem in the past and the best solution was so simple, work with Crazyegg as standalone service, so always I create a snapshot per variation.

Thanks Roman

I have followed all the instructions. My problem however is that on this screen my Crazy Egg api key is rejected with a rather unhelpfully vague error message:

Optimizely Home.png

It's like a validation error - almost like the field may be set to only allow a shorter string of characters or something.

Re: Crazy egg integration

What kind of experiment are you running?
1 - A/B Test (with the Optimizely editor)
2 - Multi-page (Redirect experiment - 2 or more web pages)
3 - Multivariate

In the second case is easy, you just need to create a single snapshot for every variant

Example
Variant-1
- for mobile
- for desktop
- for tablet

Variant-2
- for mobile
- for desktop
- for tablet

Forget the integration with Optimizely because just create problems.

Direct Variant URLs
Direct URLs for each variant is required, this is the url where the variant can be accessed outside the test. The direct URL is not the URL where the variant is served to visitors. Below is an example to help clarify this point.

URL of the A/B test:
http://www.example.com/pricing

Variant URLs:
http://www.example.com/pricing?variant=control
http://www.example.com/pricing?variant=1
http://www.example.com/pricing?variant=2
http://www.example.com/pricing?variant=3

In this example, the A/B test is of the pricing page. A control page and 3 variants are being served from the pricing URL. The control page and the variants can be reached directly using the variant URLs.

Direct URLs allow our screenshot system to visit the page and capture a screenshot outside of the test. This allows us to capture the correct screenshot for each snapshot.

Track by Name
Snapshots track using the URL by default, but this is not ideal with A/B tests since multiple pages can be served from the same URL. Track by Name allows you to track a page using a Track by Name code instead of the URL, this makes it ideal for A/B tests.

Snapshot Setup
A snapshot must be added for each variant you'd like to track.

  • Add a new snapshot using the direct variant URL
  • Set the snapshot to Track by Name under Advanced Options
  • The Track by Name code that is presented will need to be installed on the variant page

Re: Crazy egg integration

Track by name
The default tracking method for a snapshot is to track using the URL; this is not ideal for A/B tests because different variants/test pages can be served from the same URL. Track by Name solves this problem. When tracking by name, we will determine which page to track based on the Track by Name code instead of the URL.

Snapshot Setup
A snapshot must be added for each variant you'd like to track.

Add a new snapshot using the direct variant URL
Set the snapshot to Track by Name under Advanced Options
The Track by Name code that is presented will need to be placed on the variant page before the standard Crazy Egg tracking script, example below.
