Definition of url goal

Hi!

I am wondering how the url goal works? Is the following an OK explanation: "everybody who went to the specified url after the test was started, within the same session". I am especially curious about the session part - if I am correct that it is within the same session, how long does a session last (until cookie dies, until browser is closed, or something else)?

Best regards,

Jenny

Hey Jenny,

Could you give me a little more information about URL goal, when you say a URL goal do you mean the Pageview goal within Optimizely?

Re: Definition of url goal

Hi Jenny,

Thanks for the clarification. The way pageview works is once the user is bucketed in an experiment, and vists your target page, we will count this as a view. Any subsequest views on the page from the same browser as long as the experiment is running will not be counted since we de-duplicate the Pageview goal. So, even if the user closes his browser and opens it back in, we will know he is a returingin vistitor based on his cookies. This way we ensure we do not count the page view twice.

Hope that answers your question.

Best,
