I believe that audiences is still in beta and last I knew was that by hearting the post you mentioned, it would put you in the que for rollout of the feature. As this is going to replace visitor targeting it's a pretty robust feature and it is probably taking a bit longer than the Optimizely team had initially anticipated. (please, optimizely team, correct me if I'm wrong about any of this)
I also hearted the post but have not seen the icon in the upper right corner of the editor yet and I'm also eagerly awaiting the chance to use it. Hopefully soon, though.
In the meantime, here's an article link about using the audience feature so you'll be able to hit the ground running when it is enabled in your account.
Hope this helps at least a little bit. Happy testing!
One way you can target only adwords users is by tagging the url. Then you can set your experiment to show only when the the visitor has the parameters in the URL string by going to targeting > visitor conditions. Take a look at the screenshot I've taken from one of our experiments.
If you are unfamiliar with manual URL tagging, you might find this article from Google helpful.
The URL builder is here:
Hope this helps you out a bit.
dfoley, unfortunately I don't think audiences will solve your problem. We only offer the ability to target by location to our Platinum customers. You can learn more here: https://help.optimizely.com/hc/en-us/articles/200039685#geotargeting
