How does Optimizely deal with mobile web traffic?

We were analyzing a set of A/B tests and the following questions came up:

How does Optimizely detect whether a user is using a mobile device?

Can we differentiate between mobile and tablet traffic after the test has run?

Would be great if somebody has had this issue before.

Cheers,
Peter

Hi Peter,

Optimizely identifies a visitor's device by checking the browsers user agent. By using audience settings you can include or exclude particular devices (tablet and/or mobile) from your experiment.

Regarding your second question: A feature of enterprise plans  is to enable the audience settings for segmentation on your results page. Currently, Starter plans can only segment non-mobile and mobile (including tablets).

Detailed information can be found on following articles:

I hope this helps to answer your question

Re: How does Optimizely deal with mobile web traffic?

I'm also looknig at this particular question with optimizely but I ned a bit more detailed information.

I'm guessing optimizely uses javascript to detect the user agent.

Any idea what javascript code in particular it uses? For example, if it was an open source peice of code perhaps I could also use it? If not it may be proprietary but doesn't hurt to ask.

Any help offerred is greatly appreciated!
