Is geo-location based on user's IP Address or nearest Internet Exchange?

Hi,

I've read this post:

https://help.optimizely.com/hc/en-us/articles/201876450-Audience-conditions-Descriptions-and-example...

It says:

"This geographic information is derived from the source of the internet connection"

However. I'm not sure precisely what this means.

Eg: My nearest internet exchange is in a different town to where I live.

Does this mean my location would be where the internet exchange is, or would it be based on my IP.

Or are they the same thing?

Thanks in advance,

Rich

Hi there,

In order to discover this information for the purposes of Geotargeting, you can use the visitor.location data object. (See link below).

Hope this helps!

I guess if you ran an AA test and bucketed yourself, you can then visitor.location thing in chrome console or something to see where optimizely thinks you are.
