Optimizely Code Snippet Stopped Working
Optimizely recommend to install the snippet as high up in the head tag as possible, generally after the<html> tag, charset declarations, and possibly other meta tags. Add the snippet before the code for any analytics or heatmapping platforms as well.
Place these before the snippet:
Charset declarations and other meta tags, like <meta charset='utf-8'>
jQuery, if you're using your own version and not Optimizely's version (see jQuery Settings)
Any information that Optimizely must use for targeting experiments, such as custom tags
Place these after the snippet:
All other elements on your page
Any analytics or heatmapping code
Other content in a tag manager
I always paste the code manually, If you are using WordPress plugin for Optimizely keep in mind, sometimes does not work correctly.
You can see the snippet in the source code here: http://www.cpcstrategy.com/brand-policing-best-practices-for-amazon-sellers-guide/
We've been using the same optimizely code snippet in the past for ~2 years and have successfully ran numerous tests, our latest test was in October 2016. Any ideas why it would stop functioning?
So at this point, the problem could be your experiment configuration or a problem of Optimizely.
In both cases, you need to scale it to tech support.
Before, you can try duplicating the experiment and see what happens.
Check your script maybe you're using a script from another project. (remember a project for each URL)
Check your Implementation settings, uncheck or drop off all the integration plugins
Try to edit your experiment changing the URLs
example from mywebsite.com/variation-1/ to mywebsite.com/variation-1.0/
- Include trimmed jQuery (1.11.3) in project code (recommended)
I believe I am running jquery 1.11.3 on our website. Still not sure what could be the issue, the Optimizely Dashboard is showing me that my test is tracking visitors-- but it's not splitting traffic, it's a simple Re-Direct AB Test.
Scale it to tech support. I pretty sure they can help you.
I'm a member of the Optimizely Customer Success team. When I go to http://www.cpcstrategy.com/brand-policing-best-practices-for-amazon-sellers-guide/, I see that the experiment LP Guide Pop-Up Test is running. Is that the experiment you're referring to? If so, are you continuing to see the error message in the Optimizely editor?
Strange, I am seeing the landing page (http://www.cpcstrategy.com/brand-policing-best-practices-for-amazon-sellers-guide/) redirect me now to the appropriate variation URL-- it wasn't doing that a few nights ago.
Just to check on my end, I went ahead and paused the experiment and then re-started it. I still get the same error message saying the pixel isn't installed soon after I hit "start experiment". However, the test seems to be running and redirecting the URLs as it should. Any idea why I'm seeing the error message when I start my experiment?
I am going to open a support ticket for this issue so I can better help diagnose this issue.
