Redirect Problems

Redirect Problems

I have 2 different pages that I like to test. I am using the redirect but when I add my redirect URL with tracking parameters part of URL gets cut. I did it a few time and the same result.

Re: Redirect Problems

Are you able to share the URL? I can't quite make sense of your issue based on what you wrote, but it sounds like something might be inherently firing from that problematic URL before Optimizely even reaches it.

Re: Redirect Problems

The first URL is the original and the 2nd is my redirect. but when I added to the redirect box and save it and come back to it the redirect URL is cut after "purchase"

This is the way it looks:

Re: Redirect Problems

In the URLs you pasted above, you have a space or other character after "purchase=".

Let's take a look at code that was created for you - open the "edit code" window (bottom right of your experiment) and show copy/paste what is in the window.

My guess is there is a typo or extra character in there somewhere that may be causing this.

Re: Redirect Problems

Thank you it worked. In the URL targeting should I add both URLs and set it to simple match? Thanks

Re: Redirect Problems

Hi @Mikesh - you do not need to add the landing page to the experiment.

The experiment splits users from Page A to Page B.  If that is all your experiment needs to do, then run the experiment only on Page A.

Typcially people think they need to include Page B to handle Goal Tracking.  But, Goal Tracking targets conversion events, etc. *regardless of the page that the event occurs on, even when that page is not part of any experiment*.

For example, if I run an experiment only on the homepage and I want to track "Thank You Page" page hits (the order confirmation page), I do not include the thank you page in the experiment.

Re: Redirect Problems

Thank you. When I click on preview it takes me to page that is not either one of my URLs. Why is this happening. Is there a way to validate the setup.
Thanks,
Mike

Re: Redirect Problems

This will always happen when you hit the preview link. If you want to validate the experiment as it would be seen live, you can use force parameter (https://help.optimizely.com/QA_Campaigns_and_Experiments/Force_a_specific_variation_to_run_in_Optimi...) by attaching the following to the end of your URL: ?optimizely_xEXPERIMENTID=VARIATIONINDEX
