Referrer appear to not be working
I have setup an experiment where 100% of traffic is diverted to this page:
if the referrer this site: http://www.superworkingmum.com
It does not seem to be working because when I click on the link called WhatUsersDo on this page I am not redirected: http://www.superworkingmum.com/18-companies-uk-wil
I have setup audience targetting like this:
Vistor comes from....
superworkingmum [Substring match]
Any ideas as to why this is not working?
The first step here is to determine the reason you are failing the experiment. It may be because of audience conditions. However, it may also be due to other factors.
Top four reasons your experiment won't execute:
- You did not pass audience conditions
- You did not pass URL targeting
- You are not included in traffic (due to the limit you put on traffic allocation conditions)
- The experiment has not been started.
Here is an article that will help you nail down exactly why your experiment is not executing. It explains how to read and interpret the Optimizely log.
Give this a shot and let us know if you were able to discover the root cause!
@Duddell It actually sounds like you have the audience set up correctly. However, when I visit the URL www.whatusersdo.com/panel, the Optimizely snippet is not on the page. If the snippet is not on the page, then there is no way for the experiment to even run.
Just to be clear, in your variation, you are changing the href link on "WhatUsersdo" to be the link defined below? That should be no problem at all.
If you can get the snippet on the page, I would imagine you'll start to see this experiment working as expected.
Let us know if you have any questions!
@Duddell - Can you post a URL from one of the desired referring sites that includes a link to your homepage? I would like to test out the flow and make sure the browser is capturing the referral correctly and I can also look at the console log output to see what the error is. You can also do this yourself if you prefer by following the link @Amy_Herbertson linked to above.
@Duddell - This actually worked for me. I started on the page you linked to, clicked on the WhatUsersDo link and then was properly redirected to the /panel page.
It's possible that you were cookied with the original variation before you changed the traffic allocation to 100% and that's why you are not seeing it working. Can you try in an incognito window, or by clearing your cookies?
