Re: Segmentation and how it works

Under the Settings tabs -> Privacy there is a field "Filter these IP addresses out of results: " which is exactly what you are looking for.

Re: Segmentation and how it works

Hey Mattrobux,

Answers to your questions below:

How are the segments created?

If you're referring to the default segments on the results page, each one of these uses different criteria to segment the users. Mobile, for instance, looks at the user agent of the visitor. Browser type looks at the browser version information. Desktop also looks at the user agent. You can see a full rundown of default segments here. This page also include information on how to create your own custom segments.

Are they based on user behaviour?

The default segments are not based on user behavior, but rather persistent information that's available about the user. It is possible to add a user to a custom segment based on user behavior, but it would require the assistance of a developer to implement this correctly on your site. Our Optimizely X Web Experimentation and Personalization products also allow for audience targeting based on user behavior with the dynamic customer profiles feature.

What kind of stats are used and from what source?

We use our own statistical model called stats engine, designed by Stanford data scientists. You can read more about it here.

I hope this helps!

Best,

Rocky
