tracking clicks outside targeting url possible?

[ Edited ]

Hey,

I´m just reading the "Troubleshooting: goals don´t track correctly" section.

At this topic (https://help.optimizely.com/QA_and_Troubleshoot/Troubleshooting%3A_Goals_don't_track_correctly#You_a... is following mentioned:

  • You’re tracking clicks on a different page than the one you’re using for your experiment’s URL Targeting (for example, you’re running an experiment on your homepage but tracking clicks in your shopping cart.

I´m not 100% sure about this scenario.
I can only track click events on a redirect page by setting the "goal tagreding" urls but this case above isn´t possible, right?

Re: tracking clicks outside targeting url possible?

Hi,

From my understanding, you would like to track clicks on an element outside of the URL that the experiment is running on. If so, please follow the steps outlined in this URL: https://help.optimizely.com/Build_Experiments/Redirect_experiments%3A_Test_separate_URLs#Goal_target...

Here is the scenario that applies to the steps in the article:

* Experiment is targeting example.com/index.html
* You would like to track clicks on a CTA that exists on example.com/anotherpage.html
